Turbochargers use the engine exhaust to provide the power to compressor, in contrast, superchargers directly get power from the crankshaft. Most of the superchargers get power by a subsidiary belt, this belt wings on the pulley, the pulley connects on a driving gear. The driving gear drives compressor gear .There are many designs for the compressor rotor, but its task is to suck and press the air into smaller space, and inject air into the intake manifold.

The supercharger must whirl with high speed in order to compress the air, even faster than the engine itself. If the size of driving gear is larger than the compressor gear, this can make the compressor whirls more faster. The speed of the supercharger can reach 50000-65000 rotations per minute (RPM).

Compressor of 50000 rotation can produce about 41-62 kpa pressure . In certain altitude, it will produce more 41-62 kpa pressure than atmospheric pressure. And the sea level atmospheric pressure is 1.0128 kpa, so it’s about 50% more air is compressed into the engine by supercharger.

Air will be hot after compressed, it means that the air density will decrease, it will also reduce the the degree of expansion of the air in the process of explosion . It is not able to provide enough power after the spark plug ignites the mixed gas. The compressed air from exhausting must be cooled down before entering into the intake manifold in order to mechanical supercharger work efficiency fully. The emergence of the intercooler solves this problem. Intercooler has two basic designs: air cooling and water cooling. Their working principle is similar to the radiator, let the cooler air or water flows through the pipe and takes away the heat. When the hot air leaves the supercharger to enter cooler pipe, it will cool down. As the reduction of the air temperature , the density will be increased, it will make high density mixed gas enter into the combustion chamber.
